Krole is cheap for this kind of character (150pts) and with Eternal Warrior fending off the worst issues with being T3 shes actually an absolute monster. However, this means there are plenty of variations and as long as you have a model with the Cohort Doctrines special rule in your army (probably a Legate Marshal) then you can pick one of these. Unfortunately bombing runs and centreline-mounted weapons are an awful combo so I think youd usually prefer the Orions Dakka. As agents of the Imperium you can get up to all kinds of mischief by attaching independent characters to them (perhaps making them scout, for example), buffing them with psychic powers and so on. They all get a Refractor Field for a 5+ invulnerable save, and every single companion (up to the full unit of 9 max) can grab a special weapon or some kind of melee outfit thats worth having. You wont be doing that in games under 4000 points, where Valdor and an Orion or Ares would fit in your 25% allocation. Its almost like Primarchs out-Custodes the Custodes attacking them at even higher initiative with AP2 and a variety of horrible special rules. On first glance its an odd beast: 10-20 models with lasrifles who can take a vox interlock, an auxilia vexilla, and an augury scanner if they want, and the sergeant can take some melee stuff if you dont want the extra rifle (you want the extra rifle). Adeptus Custodes Venatari Custodians. There are various options in Heresy, like Mastodons and Thunderhawks, that let you put a very large proportion of your army in one transport. More excitingly it lets you inflict d6 wound with no ap on your own unit after all attacks in a combat have been made but before the outcome has been decided to let your warlord and all models in her unit make an extra attack. Personally I think those are worse than the Arachnus Blaze cannons they come with, mainly due to having AP3 instead of 1. If you can cram all of the soldiers coming out within 3 of the port they can even fire when they get out. Thats tougher you have tools to engage with all the problems in the game, but none of your tools are as good as anyone elses. You cant buy him a jump pack or jet bike, so hell be walking. Adrasite ones would be useful against multi-wound infantry with 3+ saves but those are rare enough that it probably isnt worth the investment, and you can generally beat these in melee. If your basic troops are running 13 then waddling along 6 isnt enough. It also has the same four S9 lance shots as the Orion. An AP4 small blast is not an appropriate main weapon for a Lord of War, even if it does cause pinning. Finally the Prosecutor Cadre is there to make up your line, but the two snare guns and their penchant for dashing about the place at speed mean you can use them to tie up enemy infantry and generally be a pain. It absolutely doesnt matter: its Sisters of Silence on Jetbikes. You dont get a bonus reaction though, which is weak. The Laser Destroyer is absolutely king here, no doubt about it. Load up 15 Vigilators into it and ping them an absurd distance around the map at things that really werent expecting them. Auxilia are really interesting and thematic: the close-order units, the tercio formations, and everything else add up to a really cool flavourful army. Heres a quick sample Allied detachment of 1014 points that seems like a reasonable place to start when dropping these into another army. You can pay 20 points each to upgrade them to have twin Adrathic Devastators. For 85 points you get five sisters with heavy flamers, which is pretty decent, and they seem like a fun unit. Its a drill! This guy should beat a normal Contemptor but mainly due to having WS6 rather than its wargear. Oblivion Knight Cadres are one of your Veteran equivalents, but they dont come with two wounds which is a real shame (though I guess if you can be Instant Deathed with Strength 6 two wounds isnt as much of a perk as youd hope). It is a bit annoying to give him an unwieldy weapon when youre forced to take a warlord trait that raises his initiative, so maybe go with the free Meridian Swords. Theyd be fantastic in Zone Mortalis games. The twin Arachnus Blaze Cannon the Pallas comes with are really nasty, with a couple of S8 AP1 lance shots, and theyre very fast. With such high speed thats a big threat, and I see these being a clinch part of a larger army. I think that means you can expect all the enemys autocannons and missile launchers to shoot at them, and kill them fairly easily. Maybe youve just charged something fearless and youre facing a gunline. This makes enemy deep and outflank strikes (though not subterranean ones I think) a bit more likely to be disordered. TheVeletaris Terciois the big chunky choice here, and is made up of the following: The Veletaris Command Section is a less impressive command squad with fewer weapon options, but theyre all in Reinforced Void Armour making them Heavy (your mileage may vary on if this is good). Theyre close-order which we talked about a bit earlier, but it means that they can move up to half their Movement (3 whole inches!) The misericord is interesting because its S4 ap- (and instant death), which gives you the option of radically reducing your damage output if you want to for some reason. This stacks with Fear and if you can find a way of getting both to kick off thats a bad time for an enemy fighting them. It's worth starting here with the fact that this book actually contains 3 different army lists - The Tagmata Mechanicum (The fighting forces of the Mechanicum, think cybernetic soldiers, robots and deadly vehicles) The Questoris Households (The Knights of the 31st Millennium) and the Titan Legions (The mighty god engines of the Adeptus Titanicus). For me, these guys dont do enough to justify their cost. Note I didnt say agood time of it, because I honestly dont think theyre likely to. Flooding the board with these troops would be oppressive, I think. This is good of course, but very situational it depends heavily on what your opponent brings. The Close-order thing is important because a lot of weapons have a range around 24, so movement back 3 before shooting is a good way to take you out of range of a Return Fire. I guess this rule is in place to stop you packing your lists completely full of certain choices, but its honestly unlikely to come up especially in allied detachments. There are two gun options. The front-mounted Vanquisher cannon is maybe the best, but its better on a normal Leman Russ and thats a lot cheaper. Goonhammer have published their reviews of the new 30k Liber Imperiumrules. Though you get Tercios of a number of different kinds (Tactical Command, Veletaris, Infantry, Armoured and Artillery) some of them are considerably more beneficial than others. Every Sisters of Silence unit is from one of three Chambers Militant: Vigilance, Judgement or Oblivion. This turns out to be quite difficult. Its tough but still vulnerable to things like rending weapons and it will struggle to bring its damage to where its required. This is genuinely great a fantastic unit that clocks in at 150pts but is a dedicated transport with a capacity of 16 and a front AV of 13 thats a fast vehicle with a Movement of 16, antigrav and also has the assault vehicle rule. This means that every time you visit this website you will need to enable or disable cookies again. They come with rotor cannons as stock, and actually 10 of these for 90 points gets interesting when you want your Storm Sections to hit the enemy fast. One thing its worth to note is that this is not the same as the Imperialis Militia list which is also coming at some stage, and which represents the less professionalised and less elite Imperial Army regiments. They gain +1A, +1 to charges and never need worse than a 4+ to hit, which usually doesnt matter because theyre Custodes and at least WS5 (this bit might have mattered against Primarchs but it doesnt work on them). Why not stab them ineffectually for a bit, allow the enemy shooting phase to pass uneventfully, and then take the enemy down with your guardian weapons in their assault phase? For you cute tank lovers, theCyclops Demolition Section is a real treat: the smallest of tonks. A quick bit of adding up showed that I could take a shield captain and 610 Custodian Guard or Sentinels at 3000 points. Three of these cost almost as much as ten marines with heavy bolters. This is how Custodes get around and the first thing you need to know about it is that its not an assault vehicle. With only move 7 and the Heavy unit type, Aquilons arent going to get anywhere all that fast and thats a bit of a problem for the unit. Nice little drop. You get to field a load of Line Troops wholl take out most peoples elite melee units with ease and then, unlike most of those elite marines, they will claim the objective theyre stood on. I think this slow speed is a bit crippling for the Telemon, sadly. AP2 guns will tend to do seriously efficient damage to them as a result.
