The guides were knowledgeable and engaged with everyone appropriately. We could not have expected a better experience, made more spectacular by our guides. The guides were outstanding, friendly, and very informative. The caves form when water flows through the glacier, creating passageways through the ice sometimes large and easy to walk through but sometimes narrow and more claustrophobic. Our tour guides, Matt and Casey, were very organized, knowlegeable and helpful throughout the trip. Kacey and Ryan were extremely informative, fun and made you feel extremely safe. The ice cave and walk along deep crevasses was breathtaking and a memorable experience. My wife and I had an amazing time on this adventure, and it was the highlight of our Alaskan cruise. We are an active family and this was just the perfect adventure. I highly recommend this once in a lifetime experience. Excursion and guides (Ryan and Matt) were excellent. Wow, where to begin! The canoe ride was much further than anticipated but it was great exercise. Spencer and Joey were knowledgeable, chill and so much fun. After a bit of time in the cave, the guides handed out crampons and took us on a hike onto the glacier. We joined Alec at the lake and they got us geared up and we were off! It was hands down our favorite excursion we did the in Alaska (and we did a lot of really cool things). After flying over glaciers and streams, you will fly past Mendenhall Towers and then land for a short glacier walk where you will be able to take photos, explore, ask questions, and even spot wildlife. They were fantastic leaders, they made sure no one felt alone or left behind, and as a bonus were funny and great photographers. The paddle over was lovely, great hike up the glacier, good snacks. Mendenhall Glacier, not far from downtown Juneau, is is one of the few Alaskan glaciers with an EZ-pass: Its surrounded by the Tongass National Forest, but you can easily get there by car, by air, by foot, and even by cruise ship. It was magical. This was one of the best excursions we've ever enjoyed. We were so excited for this excursion and it did NOT disappoint. Mendenhall Glacier (Juneau) - All You Need to Know BEFORE You Go Had a great time on this trip and took some really cool photos. The two tour guides Nick and Christina were ver knowledgeable about the glacier and the area and we trusted hiking with them up and down the glacier safely. We were on a cruise so also really enjoyed getting to do something a little more active. Had so much fun paddling and telling jokes in the canoe. It includes two hours or rowing and almost 2 hour of climbing steep glaciers! There are several trails around the glacier and falls, so check the Forest Service website for details on how best to suit your trekking abilities. Very knowledgeable of the area and glacier. The absolute highlight of our trip to Alaska via cruise ship. Getting to walk around on the glacier was amazing!!!!!! There was a flood on the glacier just before we arrived and therefore were unable to visit the ice caves or walk directly on the glacier but the paddle, guided narrative and hike along the glaciers edge was something we will never forget. The guides were amazing; we learned so much about Alaska and what we were seeing. Was the highlight of our trip! Snacks were provided in a water-proof bag. Then to top it off we got to go on top of the glacier and look around at the lake and the waterfall that we just paddled across. This was the best excursion we've ever taken on any cruise or land vacation! The van will pick you up right at the AJ dock, but some in our group took the shuttle from AJ to downtown. As we moved off of the glacier towards the boat the leaders were great at reviewing everything we'd seen as well as generating enthusiasm for the return boat ride. If youre not yet an expert outdoor adventurer but you still want to experience one of the most remote, rugged landscapes in the world, this is the place to go. Safety was always the top priority, and they made sure to put our safety first. However, they were also outstanding in showing us places that were especially interesting. The guides were SUPER knowledgable and friendly and made everyone on our excursion feel safe and involved. Our canoe ride back was under 40 minutes, including stops. The Mendenhall Glacier is also accessible by bus from the Juneau cruise port if you don't mind walking a little! Small things like the hot chocolate at the end of the trip showed that they really put thought into making the trip a five star experience. The ice cave was beautiful and walking unto the Glacier was a great way to truly experience it.
